Killer whales and gray whales were seen today! This kind of news makes us at West Coast Aquatic Safaris very excited for our opening on March 6th 2009 and for the 23rd Pacific Rim Whale Festival! Owner and one of the operators of WASCO, Keith saw the killers whales down on Chesterman Beach today scaring out the surfers in the water. He said he too would have left the water if he was out on his surfboard; as the killer whales seen were transients and hunt marine mammals!
Keith has just returned to Tofino from his time spent in Maui and he can feel the excitement in good old Tuff City (Tofino)! Keith can't wait to open his doors for the 2009 season!

Whale Festival in Maui - What a Great Day!
Keith had a wonderful day at the 29th Maui Whale Festival! It was full of fun, music, art, education, and more all to do with the humpback whale. Seen on the right is a photo taken by Keith. It was an exhibition containing Origami Whales from all over the world. Peggy Oki an environmentalist and and artist has taken these whales and linked them together forming the pavilion maze of threaded paper whales. Each whale looks similar from a far, but when you take a look at them you realize that each whale is different.
Another outstanding booth Keith found on Whale Day in Maui was The Whalesong Project - Voices from the Sea. At this booth you could listen to live humpback communication that is available for all of us to enjoy by going to The Whalesong Project - Voices from the Sea website. Sam David from Whale Trance a musical artist who Keith met at that booth sold his CD that uses recorded whale songs and compliments them with his didgeridoo.
This was just two of the amazing attractions Keith found on this awesome day at the 29th Maui Whale Festival.

What a Photo!!!
West Coast Aquatic Safaris adventure to Maui has been a success!!! The owner Keith Phillips has been able to see how whale watching is done in Hawaii. They, as we, place a great importance in respecting the whales by giving them ample space while watching them and by educating their guests on the whales. Also, on his trip Keith has met a wonderful Canadian photographer, Erica Chan who spends part of her life in Maui and the other on the west coast of Canada. West Coast Aquatic Safaris is looking forward to be hold a few of her pieces, they sure are breath taking. We don't want to show the photo online, but come visit us in Tofino, British Columbia and have a look yourself!

Our Vessel WASCO
West Coast Aquatic Safaris is proud to be running WASCO as our flagship. WASCO was designed to be able to keep everyone on board warm and dry as well, on nice days everyone can ride out side! WASCO has been called the "convertible" of Tofino whale watching fleet! This vessel has also been designed to have three separate viewing decks. WASCO is the more convertible ride with bonuses such as a full washroom and SIRIUS satellite radio. WASCO makes a whale watch, bear watch, bird watch, or Hot Springs tour the most pleasurable experience! Please check out photos of WASCO on this link!

Count Down to the 23rd Pacific Rim Whale Festival
There is just over a month until Tofino's and Ucluelet's 23rd Pacific Rim Whale Festival!
In the early spring 22,000 gray whales migrate north from Mexican Baja Peninsula up to their summer feeding grounds. These ground span from our local Tofino waters all the way up to the Bering and Chukchi Seas near the Arctic.
The Pacific Rim Whale Festival is a celebration of these beautiful creatures and welcoming them back north. It is not worth missing first with seeing these creatures traveling up along the coast and second with fun events such as Chowder Chow Down, Martini Migration and Tug of Whale!
Visit West Coast Aquatic Safaris to view the kinds of marine tours that are available in Tofino, British Columbia!
